How Much Does a Boat Dock Cost in East Texas?
Real-world dock pricing for Cedar Creek Lake, Lake Athens, Lake Palestine, and Richland-Chambers — what drives the number up or down.

If you're getting wildly different dock quotes — $18,000 from one builder, $52,000 from another — you're not crazy. Dock pricing has more moving parts than almost anything else in waterfront construction.
What you're actually paying for
A dock estimate has four main cost buckets: pilings, framing, decking, and hardware. Pilings are the single biggest variable. Treated southern yellow pine driven to refusal runs $200–$400 per piling; steel pipe pile installed by a barge-mounted driver can be $600–$1,200 each. Most residential docks need 6 to 12 pilings.
Decking is the next big lever. Pressure-treated wood is cheapest, composite is mid-tier, marine-grade aluminum is the longest-lasting option. The aluminum option is roughly 2.5× the wood cost per square foot, but families who actually walk their dock barefoot in July tell us it's worth every dollar.
Why your neighbor paid different
If your neighbor on the same cove paid half what your quote shows, look at piling count and depth first. A dock built when the water was 6 feet deep may need very different pilings than one going in today if the lake's been dredged and that section is now 11 feet.
Lake-specific permitting also moves the number. Cedar Creek and Richland-Chambers (both TRWD) and Lake Athens (AMWA) have stricter cap-elevation, decking, and lighting requirements than smaller private lakes. We bake permit time and the standard submittal package into our quote so there are no later surprises.
Realistic East Texas price ranges
For a basic 12×16 ft fixed dock with treated decking, single ladder, and 6 wood pilings, expect $14,000–$22,000 on a typical East Texas lake. Add a covered roof and you're at $24,000–$38,000. Add a single boat lift and slip cover and the all-in number is usually $40,000–$65,000.
Floating docks and articulating systems for lakes with bigger water-level swings — Lake Palestine during drought years, for example — start higher: $35,000 for a basic floating platform, $70,000+ once you add lifts and covers. The premium pays back in usability across full and low-pool conditions.
